World Record Attempt To Drive From The Coast
Of Antarctica To The South Pole
Antarctica & The South Pole: a country of
extremes
-
The coldest: minus 89.9 deg C - lowest ever recorded in the world
-
The windiest: 300KMPH - highest ever recorded in the world
-
The driest: technically a desert less than 5cm of rainfall a year
-
The iciest: 90% of all the world's fresh water is frozen on
Antarctica
-
In most places the ice is 10,000 ft thick and 15,670 feet at its
thickest
-
The ice is over 40 million years old
-
The 5PPthPP largest: 14.25 million sq km – 48 times the size of UK
with no life forms
-
The last place on earth that man was to discover – a pure, clean,
untouched wilderness
Education
There will be lectures, appearances and footage about the event to
increase public knowledge about the Antarctic and its protection.
Free talks will serve to raise public awareness of the continent and
aid worldwide support and interest
Environment
-
For every litre of fuel used by the vehicle in Antarctica, an
aircraft would use 10, reducing fuel emission by 90%
-
The vehicle left temporary thin tracks in some places as it
drove on hard packed ice most of the time. Wind soon blew over these few mm of ‘footprint’
-
The team left no other trace of their stay
-
The vehicle was thoroughly steam-cleaned before it
left
